jenny and patrickWe LOVE chai! The smell of simmering ginger fills our home most mornings just as the sun rises over the mountains. We also love India—her people, spiritual traditions, music, food and art have become woven into our lives. One morning while sipping chai (and dreaming of returning to India and Nepal), we decided to collaborate on a book. We would embark on a trip to the chai motherland, steep ourselves in masala chai, and record authentic chai culture. So we did.

Our book, Chai Pilgrimage (due out Fall, 2009), and our site, chaipilgrimage.com, is our way of sharing our adventure and discoveries with you. We invite you to sit down at our chai site as often as you like and enjoy a sip of the latest brew. Please, share your thoughts, favorite chai recipes or travel stories. We look forward to hearing from you!

Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw and Patrick Shaw share a great love for chai, travel and each other. Jenny is a freelance illustrator, children’s book author and painter. She first fell in love with chai while volunteering at a school in Nepal. Each morning she was awakened before sunrise to the cook Indira Didi singing, “Chyaa Bahini!” (Chai for my little sister!). Patrick is a therapeutic bodyworker and ayurvedic teacher. He has spent previous lifetimes as a chai wallah in India. This time around, they live in Taos, New Mexico where they like to garden, walk in the mountains and sip chai. Check out our website at www.dancingelephantstudio.com.
